It is VE Day as I write this meditation, which celebrates the day in 1945 when Britain and its allies accepted the unconditional surrender of Nazi Germany, bringing the war in Europe to an end after almost six years of conflict. Throughout today, the nation will remember those who fought, and the many who died, to secure our freedom from the enemy.
As we pass through a ‘war’ of a different kind against coronavirus, I would ask you to remember the greatest victory ever achieved. It took place on a Roman Cross, outside the city of Jerusalem, over 2000 years ago. The enemies were Satan, sin and death. The Victor on that day was the Lord Jesus Christ. We read in the Bible:
‘But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God’, Hebrews chapter 10 verse 11.
A hymn writer expressed it in this way:
The victory is ours! For us in might came forth the Mighty One;
For us He fought the fight, the triumph won – The victory is ours.
I invite you to join me in celebrating the victory of the Lord Jesus over the enemies that are taking us to eternal destruction, if we do not place our faith in Him.
