How those words rang out a week ago on VE Day and have carried on in minds and thoughts since. Popularised by Dame Vera Lynn when she sang to the allied forces, the lyrics were aimed to comfort those who feared they might not see their loved ones again.
Centuries earlier, on the eve of the greatest of battles against the powers of sin, death and the devil, the Lord Jesus Christ reassured His fearful disciples with awe-inspiring words:
“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. 4 And where I go you know, and the way you know” John’s Gospel chapter 14 verse 1-4.
Not only did Christ fight that battle, and fight it alone, He rose from the dead a victorious Saviour and gives eternal peace and hope through faith alone in His work. If that is not enough, He has promised to return “I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also”. He is coming, are you ready?
