‘Almost 62,000 ‘excess deaths’ have been recorded across the UK since the outbreak of the virus …’ one national newspaper reported last week, these being more deaths than normally take place in that period. We understand what is being measured but it is shocking to reflect that any number of deaths could be described as ‘excess’ or ‘more than usual’.

For the God who created us and Who gives us our very breath, no death can be described as ‘excess’. Every life is precious. Every one of us is valued and loved by God.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. John’s Gospel chapter 3 verses 16-17.
