The Government is facing calls from various sources to reduce the ‘social distancing’ measurement between people from 2 metres to 1 metre. Ministers are being told that, if they fail to do so, it will have a catastrophic impact on the economy. This debate reminds us that, as sinners, the distance between mankind and God is as great as it possibly could be!

The Bible describes us as ‘far off’ Ephesians chapter 2 verse 13, and ‘having no hope and without God in the world’ Ephesians chapter 2 verse 12. The distance, therefore, between us and God has catastrophic, eternal consequences and there is absolutely nothing we can do to reduce it. However, all is not lost! God, in love and mercy, has not just reduced the distance, but He has removed it for us! The Bible tells us, ‘For there is one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus’ 1 Timothy chapter 2 verse 5. He died on the cross for our sins and, as a result, we can be ‘brought near (to God) by the blood of Christ’ Ephesians chapter 2 verse 13.
