‘FAITH does not eliminate questions; but faith knows where to take them.’ These words were written by Elisabeth Elliot. Jim and Elisabeth Elliot were missionaries to the Auca Indians in Ecuador, but Jim was martyred in 1956. Undoubtedly, many questions must have flooded Elisabeth’s mind after her husband’s death. However, her FAITH in God triumphed and she went to live among the tribe that killed her husband and shared the Christian gospel (good news) with them.
Similarly, FAITH TRIUMPHED in the life of Eliza Hewitt (1851-1920). Her teaching career was cut short by a serious spinal condition and she became bedridden for many months. However, she still developed her love for God and shared her FAITH, particularly in the hymns she wrote, e.g.
MY FAITH has found a resting place, not in device or creed.
I serve the ever living One, Who lives for me, to plead.
I need no other argument, I need no other plea.
It is enough that Jesus died, and that He died for me.
The Bible teaches, ‘But without FAITH it is impossible to please Him, for whoever comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him’, Hebrews chapter 11 verse 6.
