We are living in a world that is still being ravaged by a killer virus. Many people’s lives or well-being have been lost. There were hopes that the experience would change the world for the better; however, subsequent events have proved the exact opposite! We might well despair and ask, ‘Will things ever be any different?’ The Bible’s answer is a resounding, ‘Yes!’ Isaiah, an Old Testament prophet, looked forward to an idyllic time on earth: ‘The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, the leopard shall lie down with the young goat, the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a LITTLE CHILD shall lead them . . . they shall not hurt nor destroy’, Isaiah chapter 11 verses 6 and 8.

As we look around at a sad and broken world, it is difficult to imagine such a scene as this. Nevertheless, such conditions will prevail, when Christ comes back to rule on earth for one thousand years. Beyond that time, the Bible also looks forward to the time, when there will be ‘new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells’, 2 Peter chapter 3 verse 13.
