What worrying times these have been for many young people and others as they have received their exam results or teachers’ assessments. Others have received results of medical tests, surveys etc. Pass or fail; cured or not. They can be life changing experiences.

For all of us there is one result we have to accept; no appeal can be lodged, no upgrade possible: ‘For the wages of sin is death…’ Stark, harsh and inescapable. Amazingly, though, that is only part of the result for the verse concludes ‘but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord’ Romans chapter 6 verse 23. Clear, simple and, thank God, wonderfully true. As with all gifts, God’s gift is free and is to be accepted.
