It is recorded of King Solomon in the Bible, ‘For he was wiser than all men . . . He spoke three thousand proverbs’, 1 Kings chapter 4 verses 31-32. I invite you to consider one of these proverbs with me in our meditations this week. He wrote, ‘There are three things which are too wonderful for me, yes, four which I do not understand’, Proverbs chapter 30 verse 18. The first of these things was, ‘the way of an eagle in the air’, Proverbs chapter 30 verse 19. Our busy cities hold no attraction for the eagles. They are at home in the high mountain peaks – you gaze up to the heavens and wonder at their majestic movements – they belong up there! The eagles only swoop down to the ground in order to kill prey for their young.
The eagles remind me of the Lord Jesus, who came down to earth from His home in heaven, not to kill or destroy, but to save us. Far from inflicting death, like the eagle, He died on the cross to give us eternal life. His love is, indeed, wonderful!
