One of the quietest places in a zoo is the reptile house – nothing ever seems to move! However, when food arrives, seemingly docile creatures spring into action in their rocky enclosures to devour it. The second thing that was ‘too wonderful’ for Solomon to understand was ‘the way of a serpent on a rock’, Proverbs chapter 30 verse 19. He watched as a creature that appeared harmless on a rock moved suddenly and swiftly to kill and devour its prey. We have an enemy, Satan, who appeared in the guise of a serpent in the Garden of Eden. Through Eve, he led Adam to disobey God. Thus, sin came into the world and passed to all mankind. We are all born sinners and in Satan’s power.
However, there is one Man, who Satan never overcame; namely, Jesus, who is called ‘the Rock’, 1 Corinthians chapter 10 verse 4. Satan tried, on many occasions, to tempt Him to sin but failed. He even motivated wicked men to crucify Him but Jesus triumphed and rose from the dead. Indeed, ‘the way of the serpent (Satan) on THE ROCK (Jesus)’ is too wonderful for us to understand! Satan’s ultimate destiny is an eternal lake of fire. Trust the Lord Jesus as your Saviour and your eternal destiny will be Heaven!
