The wonder of love

The third thing that captivated Solomon was ‘the way of a ship in the midst of the sea’, Proverbs chapter 30 verse 19. It amazed him that a vessel, steered only by a small and unseen rudder, could find its way through the sea and reach its desired haven. Christians believe that the Lord Jesus, though unseen, guides them through ‘the tempestuous sea’ of this world and will ultimately bring them home to heaven. He said, ‘I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also’, John chapter 14 verse 3. Such love as this is beyond our comprehension.

It is no surprise, therefore, that the fourth thing that caused Solomon to wonder was ‘the way of a man with a virgin’. The way a man and a woman fall in love is wonderful and cannot be put into words. However, the love of the Lord Jesus for us is even more wonderful. The hymn writer expressed it like this:

I cannot tell how He could love a child so weak and full of sin:

His love must be most wonderful if He could die my love to win.
