Those who participate in marathons, park runs or fun runs, set their sights on the importance of finishing. A good or improved time may be hoped for, or for the best runners, a good finishing position. But for most, it is the challenge of reaching the finish.
The Lord Jesus Christ came into this world from Heaven, to complete the task He received from God the Father, to provide a way of reconciling mankind to God. He could say His goal was “to do the will of Him who sent Me and to finish His work” John chapter 4 verse 34. Some-time later, just before He allowed Himself to be taken by the people and crucified, He prayed to His Father “I have finished the work which You have given Me to do” John chapter 17 verse 4. Having suffered God’s judgement for our sin, with a triumphant cry Jesus said, “It is finished!” and bowing His head, He gave up His spirit” John chapter 19 verse 30.
The Apostle Paul wrote, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” 2 Timothy chapter 4 verse 7. Have you begun it yet? Faith in Jesus Christ and His work for you are needed.
