The poor man’s deliverance

King Solomon wrote: ‘There was a little city, and few men within it, and there came a great king against it, and besieged it, and built great bulwarks against it. Now there was found in it a POOR WISE MAN, and he by his wisdom delivered the city; yet no man remembered that same POOR MAN’, Ecclesiastes chapter 9 verses 14-16.

What the great king did to this city was what Satan did in God’s world. He beguiled Eve and, through her, Adam to sin against God and by so doing enslaved all men and women thereafter. The last man in the city Solomon spoke of, who we would have least expected to bring deliverance to it (the POOR MAN) was the very one who did so. Solomon tells us that it was ‘by his wisdom (he) delivered the city’.

It was ‘by His wisdom’ that the Lord Jesus made it possible for us to be delivered from sin and Satan’s power. He became indescribably poor and died upon a cross to take the judgement for our sin. Sadly, the majority of people do not remember Him and despise His words. Our prayer is that this will not be true of you!
