One of the things that people FORGET is that God is eternal; therefore, this leads them to make false assumptions about Him and to mock His plans. They fail to appreciate that what often appears to be a delay in fulfilling His promises, is not so, in His reckoning. The cry of the scoffers has always been, ‘Where is the promise of His coming? . . . all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation’, 2 Peter chapter 3 verse 4. They are ignorant of the way in which God views time.
Peter warns us, ‘Do not FORGET this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day’, 2 Peter chapter 3 verse3. God has plans for the future and they will be brought to pass. He will take those who have trusted in Christ as their Saviour to be with Him in heaven. He will then judge this world for its rejection of Him. The seemingly long time lapse before these things happen should not lead us to the conclusion that He is ‘slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance’, 2 Peter chapter 3 verse 9.
