In the present pandemic, we know the importance of washing our hands frequently and properly, but God wants something more: God wants us to have clean hearts. We have all sinned against God. Sin is like a terrible disease that makes our hearts unclean. We have all done evil things in secret and tried to hide our sin, but God sees right into our hearts. “Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart” 1 Samuel chapter 16 verse 7. In the Bible we read that King David committed adultery and tried to cover it up, but God had seen it. David was heartbroken and prayed: “Create in me a clean heart, O God” Psalm 51 verse 10.

How can our hearts be clean before God? Firstly, we confess by owning up our sins: “If we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness 1 John chapter 1 verse 9. Secondly, we believe in Christ who shed His blood and died for our sins upon the cross: “The blood of Jesus Christ God’s Son, cleanses us from all sin” 1 John chapter 1 verse 7. When we trust Him as our Saviour, He cleanses us completely.
