Jesus taught that He ‘must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, AND BE RAISED THE THIRD DAY’, Luke chapter 9 verse 22. Even His closest disciples had difficulty grasping the truth of His resurrection. When He appeared to them after His resurrection, ‘they were terrified and frightened, and SUPPOSED THEY HAD SEEN A SPIRIT’, Luke chapter 24 verse 37. How wrong they were! He said to them, ‘Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I Myself. Handle me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see I have’, Luke chapter 24 verse 39. The apostle Paul reminds us, ‘And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins!’, 1 Corinthians chapter 15 verse 17. The suppositions of others will only cast doubt upon the bodily resurrection of Christ. We must trust the words of Jesus: ‘I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live’, John chapter 11 verse 25.
