Trick or Treat?

That’s the question many will be asking today as children and others celebrate Halloween. Children like to go from house to house asking for the ‘treat’, such as sweets or sometimes money. The ‘trick’ is not usually explained but it originates from a threat to cause trouble if no ‘treat’ is received. In England, from the middle ages up until the 1930s people used to go from house to house begging the rich for soul cakes, in exchange for praying for the souls of the givers and their friends.

We are glad when we read the Bible that God does not trick us and has more than a treat for us, a free gift. We can be certain in this life of full forgiveness and a secure and certain eternal future. Jesus Himself said, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me’ John chapter 14 verse 6.

The Bible speaks more about the wonderful person of the Lord Jesus Christ: ‘Therefore He is also able to save]to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.  For such a High Priest was fitting for us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and has become higher than the heavens; 27 who does not need daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the people’s, for this He did once for all when He offered up Himself’ Hebrews chapter 7 verses 25-27.

Don’t be tricked will you; accept the free gift of salvation. Through the death of the Lord Jesus Christ, the price has been paid to forgive your sins and you simply need to trust Him.

Please read more yourself about something much better than any treat, God’s free gift. We will gladly send you a Bible and other helpful literature. We will pray for you. Come back again for another Message of Hope.
