We are encouraged in the UK to STAY HOME, keep safe and protect the NHS. Home has many meanings and memories, not all of them happy which is very sad. Interestingly, when God created the first 2 humans, Adam and Eve, He brought them together as a couple and gave them a home, the first home ever, for their family Genesis chapters 2-3.
God has always wanted to be part of our lives, despite our hostility towards Him. When Adam and Eve sinned in the garden of Eden, God did not leave them, abandon them, destroy them. He clothed them to cover their shame and promised One, His Son Jesus, Who would come and pay the price for sin and bring forgiveness.
When Jesus was here, He also wanted to be with people; He travelled so far to meet so many to heal, help and teach them. Some welcomed Him into their homes. When Jesus chose 12 disciples the first reason why He did this was ‘that they might be with Him’ Mark chapter 3 verse 14. Before going to the cross of Calvary to be the One and Only sacrifice for sins, Jesus said such comforting words to those same disciples, even though He knew they would soon leave Him and deny Him ‘Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also’ John chapter 14 verses 1-3.
Jesus still wanted to be with them: ‘where I am, there you may be also’ and He is returning for them and all those who know Him as their Saviour. They will be with Him, in a heavenly home.
As you stay safe and stay home, remember there is a better, eternal home we can all share in heaven with the Lord Jesus. And that will be a safe home too.
