Are you pleased to turn the calendar, leaving January behind and starting a new month, and that the month with the least number of days? At least in the west February brings us closer to spring, a little more daylight and the buds beginning to appear. All months and seasons are all to be enjoyed, even when in winter!
In the first book of the Bible, God made a promise to a man called Noah, renowned for his ark,
‘While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, winter and summer, and day and night shall not cease’ Genesis chapter 8 verse 22. Whatever the season, whatever the climate, God has a purpose for them and this is proved to us as we watch and enjoy nature around us. We just need to see it.
As God has a purpose in the seasons, He has a purpose for each one of us as well. David was overwhelmed when He realised God’s knowledge of Him: ‘For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvellous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well … Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, the days fashioned for me, when as yet there were none of them’ Psalm 139 verses 13-16.
Jesus’ disciples were amazed when He told them how much God noticed: ‘Are not five sparrows sold for two copper coins? And not one of them is forgotten before God. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows’ Luke chapter 12 verses 6-7.
As you see the sparrows today, in the UK at least, remember in the eyes of God ‘you are of more value than many sparrows’.
