All Christians wish to live lives pleasing to their Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Sometimes, it is not easy, sometimes we get in wrong. The very first Psalm in the Bible helps us understand the steps to a happy, blessed, Christian life:
Psalm 1 warns us what not to do, verse 1 ‘Blessed (or Happy) is the man (woman) who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful’. We do well to learn from the mistakes of Lot (Genesis chapter 19) and Peter (Mark chapter 14) and be careful where we sit and stand.
Positively, Psalm 1 shows us the answer to a happy Christian life verse 2 ‘But his (her) delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he (she) meditates day and night’. The Christians at Berea were keen readers of their Bibles (Acts chapter 17 verses10-11).
Unconsciously, all of this will make us fruitful Christians, verse 3 ‘He (she) shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he (she) does shall prosper’.
May the Lord give us all the joy of not only following Him but pleasing Him. Please let us know if you would like help and encouragement to become a Christian and to live the Christian life.
