There is a song, which has proved for many years to be a source of great comfort to Christians in a constantly changing world:
Yesterday, today, forever, Jesus is the same.
All may change, but Jesus never,
Glory to His Name!
Great changes have affected our lives, recently; therefore, it is comforting to meditate on what never changes. There is only one Person of whom we can say this, i.e. Jesus Christ. The Bible says, ‘Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever’, Hebrews chapter 13 verse 8.
If I asked you to tell me about one incident in your life that tells me everything about your life and character, I suggest this would be impossible. However, when we come to the Bible, we find that God chooses one incident from the life of Jesus, which happened at the age of twelve, to describe His actions and character prior to His three years of public ministry.
READING: Luke chapter 2 verses 41-50
This one incident took place in Jerusalem at Passover time. Both of these things pointed to Jesus’s death. He was to die on a cross outside the walls of Jerusalem, at the time of the Passover, when countless lambs were sacrificed, which pointed to His coming death and the shedding of His blood for our sins. This purpose for His coming to earth never changed. He did not, for one moment, deviate from this pathway! He came ‘to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself’, Hebrews chapter 9 verse 26. This single incident, therefore, summarized His entire life.
It is also interesting to note that when Mary and Joseph thought they had ‘lost Him’, they found Him after three days in the Temple, His Father’s House. It reminds us that after three days He rose from the dead and is now in heaven, which He described as ‘My Father’s House’, John chapter 14 verse 2.
We pray you will find peace and forgiveness in the Changeless Christ.
