… so said the prophet Nahum and many more since his day, even when not understanding the purposes of God and the difficulties and sorrows in their lives. ‘The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and He knows those who trust in Him’ Nahum chapter 1 verse 7. We can be greatly encouraged, and challenged, by the faith of so many of God’s people.
- Job: the first known man to fear God, had his life turned upside down when he lost all his children, his business and possessions and yet would still trust his God ‘Though He (God) slay me, yet will I trust Him’ Job chapter 13 verse 15.
- Joseph: even though sold as a slave by his brothers, robbed of all family life and his expectations thwarted, realised God had a purpose in it all ‘But as for you, he told his brothers, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good’ Genesis chapter 50 verse 20.
- David: fearing for his own life could similarly rest in God’s plan for him ‘As for God, His way is perfect; the word of the Lord is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him’ Psalm 18 verse 30.
In the Bible, chapter 11 of the book of Hebrews records a wonderful array of men and women, who in all their suffering and with many questions unanswered, had an unfailing faith in God. May we too, with our questions and fears, remember as Nahum did ‘The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and He knows those who trust in Him’.
We will be happy to send you a Bible to learn more of our wonderful God and His Son Jesus Christ. We will gladly pray for you; just let us know.
