Hopefully, this is the experience of many of us today, as in the UK today is a Bank Holiday, a national public holiday. The forecast (this is written on Friday before Monday) is good! But we all know that can change, certainly with British weather.
We all benefit from sunshine in so many ways: it lifts our spirits, improves our sleep, reduces stress to name just a few benefits. The whole of natures depends on sunshine. We should not be surprised then that this was all part of God’s Master Plan in creation:
‘Then God said, “Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years; and let them be for lights in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth”; and it was so. Then God made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, (the sun) and the lesser light to rule the night (the moon). He made the stars also.
God set them in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth, and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. So the evening and the morning were the fourth day’. Genesis chapter 1 verses 14-19
We will not always need the sun, however. Of God’s eternal heaven we read:
‘And there shall be no more curse, but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and His servants shall serve Him. They shall see His face, and His name shall be on their foreheads. There shall be no night there: They need no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light. And they shall reign forever and ever’. Revelation chapter 22 verses 3-5.
No more curse … no more sun … what a place! And Christ came to secure for each of us a place in God’s heaven. Read more from the beginning to the end of the Bible.
