“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid” John’s Gospel chapter 14 verse 27.
What a verse for today! With all of us facing uncertainties, shocked by tragic events, into our troubled lives can come a certain and unshakeable Peace. These words were spoken by the Lord Jesus, before His own unimaginable sufferings. Thinking on the needs of His troubled disciples the Lord Jesus would give to them “My peace”, His peace.
On Calvary’s cross as the Sin-bearer, the Lord Jesus “made peace through the blood of His cross” Colossians chapter 1 verse 20. This was a work only He could achieve; centuries had proved such peace could never be made by men and women who were “having no hope, and without God in the world … far off (from God)” Ephesians chapter 2 verses 12-13.
Consequently, having made peace, He “came and preached peace to you who were far off” Ephesians chapter 2 verse 17. Paul himself, through his own experience and life changing encounter with the risen Christ could clearly affirm “Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God” Romans chapter 1 verse 1-2.
Peace. Our prayer for you today is that you will be eternally blessed by hearing and responding to the words of the risen Christ: “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid” John’s Gospel chapter 14 verse 27.
