“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God” Hebrews chapter 12 verses 1-2.

This is what we all need today, whoever we are, wherever we are: “Looking unto Jesus”.

Looking at self will depress us; looking at others will disappoint us but no-one has ever been disappointed “Looking unto Jesus”. Thank God Jesus is a true man, a true human so He understands all our situations and circumstances. But thank God Jesus is more than human, He is divine and as He understands so He is able to help us whatever our situations and circumstances.

Our two verses today tell us what Jesus has done “who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God”.

Hebrews chapter 9 verse 24 tells us more about this blessed Jesus, where He is and what He is doing “… but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us”.
