Verse For The Day

But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd” Matthew chapter 9 verse 26.

Jesus had seen so many people who needed Him, as noted in Matthew chapter 9: a paralysed man, a despised tax collector who worked for the Romans, a young girl who had died, a woman with a dreadful blood disorder, 2 blind men, a demon possessed man. And He healed and blessed them all.

How strange then, that Jesus saw healthy people, the multitudes, and knew they needed Him too. The multitudes may have been in the best of health, with happy homes, unlike so many. But deep down they had serious issues that only Jesus could heal. Issues like, deceitfulness, jealousy, an unforgiving spirit, a lying and cruel tongue. All marks of sin. And we are no different today in the 21st century; some might even say we are worse for we are more privileged than those of Jesus’ day.

But for them and us:

  • Jesus sees us;
  • Jesus loves us;
  • Jesus knows the troubles and cares of our lives;
  • Jesus knows we need Him as the Good Shepherd to protect, save and keep us.

All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, everyone, to his own way; and the Lord has laid on Him (the Lord Jesus) the iniquity of us all” Isaiah chapter 53 verse 6.

Jesus said: “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep” John chapter 10 verse 11.

Happy Monday!
