Beautiful Bath!

Welcome to another week of meditations. You will, no doubt, appreciate from the name of the website that it comes to you from a group of Christians, who meet together to worship and serve God at Manvers Gospel Hall in the beautiful city of Bath, UK. It is a city that attracts approximately four million day visitors a year. However, it might never have existed but for its famous hot spring water and impressive Georgian architecture.

In the following meditations, we will ‘explore’ some of the interesting historical sites in the city and consider the spiritual lessons that we can learn from them. Firstly, let us ‘visit’ the well-known PULTENEY BRIDGE and the WEIR that sits just in front of it.

The Bridge is one of the few bridges in the world, and the only one in the UK, to have shops built along its full length. The Weir has brought much greater control to the waters of the River Avon, making the city less susceptible to the serious flooding that regularly damaged buildings and businesses in the past. At a cost of £3m (£12m in today’s money) it was a much-needed and considerable investment, but what a difference it made! Many lives have been saved as a result of its existence.

It reminds us of the great price that was paid, so that we can be saved from the penalty that our sin against God deserved:

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life’, John chapter 3 verse 16.

What a price to pay!

Whether you live in the city of Bath or elsewhere, God’s love extends to every single one of us. If you accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, you can have confidence that you will be safe and secure forever!
