The Great Pot (3)

Suggested reading: 2 KINGS chapter 4 verses 38-41

Continued:

We will conclude our meditation today on the POT that the prophet, Elisha, used to meet the need of the people in the days of famine. We noted last time that God had made it clear, through Elisha, what it must contain. Sadly, there was one person, in particular, who added to its contents and the pot that should have brought salvation to the people, brought forth death. It reminded us that if we seek to add to or take away from God’s offer of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ, the outcome will be disastrous!

God’s answer, through Elisha, was clear and simple: Then bring some flour, verse 41. This flour was white, fine and pure. It points us to Jesus Christ. He is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, Hebrews chapter 7 verse 26. He is the only one who can save us from sin and death. The message of salvation could not be clearer: Repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ, Acts chapter 20 verses 21.

It is no surprise that once the fine flour had been added to the pot, we read, AND THERE WAS NOTHING HARMFUL IN THE POT, verse 41. We can rest assured that God’s Word will only do us good. King David wrote, Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who trusts in Him, Psalm 34 verse 8.
