Verse For The Day

The LORD is my shepherdPsalm 23 verse 1.

Psalm 23 is a psalm written by a shepherd called David and it is all about sheep!

As you read the psalm you will notice it starts off speaking about the shepherd. Half way through, though, the style changes and it is the sheep that is speaking – the sheep is speaking to the shepherd! Read the psalm and notice this beautiful conversation.

Our verse for today is the first verse:The LORD is my shepherd.’ A dear Christian lady was teaching some poor children the 5 words of this text and used the five fingers of one hand to help them learn it:

  • First finger, (thumb)The
  • Second fingerLORD
  • Third finger – Is
  • Fourth finger My
  • Fifth (little finger) – Shepherd

To emphasise the point of knowing Jesus as your Shepherd , the teacher held her fourth finger repeatedly stressing the Lord is My Shepherd.

Sadly one of the children took seriously ill and as he had no family the Christian lady visited him in hospital and spoke gently the beautiful words The LORD is my shepherd.’ Not long after the child died but the nurse told the Christian lady a strange thing had happened – the little boy died holding his fourth finger! What joy, the boy knew Jesus as MY Shepherd.

Do you? The LORD is my shepherd.

Happy Monday!
