God saved the Queen!
Today in England, Queen Elizabeth II will be buried following her death last week in Scotland. The royal announcement declares:
“The State Funeral of Her Majesty The Queen will take place at Westminster Abbey on Monday 19th September at 1100hrs BST. Prior to the State Funeral, The Queen will Lie-in-State in Westminster Hall for four days, to allow the public to pay their respects.”
When Elizabeth was born in 1926 to the Duke and Duchess of York, no-one could have imagined the impact such a child would have on a nation and the world itself. As a young woman she was brought into the world’s limelight when her father unexpectedly became King in 1936 and Elizabeth became heir presumptive. In 1952 Elizabeth became Queen herself.
For 70 years, our Queen, has been an example to millions with her consistent life, gracious ways and kind words. Like all of us, she made many a mistake but over her lifetime Elizabeth has made many a reference to her Christian faith:
- “When I was 21, I pledged my life to the service of our people and I asked for God’s help to make good that vow … I do not regret, or retract, one word of it.”
- “To many of us our beliefs are of fundamental importance. For me the teachings of Christ and my own personal accountability before God provide a framework in which I try to lead my life. I, like so many of you, have drawn great comfort in difficult times from Christ’s words and example.”
- “We remember the birth of Jesus Christ whose only sanctuary was a stable in Bethlehem. He knew rejection, hardship and persecution; and yet it is Jesus Christ’s generous love and example which has inspired me through good times and bad.”
The passing of our Queen has been marked by universal and heart-felt grief and we salute her memory today. The Queen’s family will miss her deeply and we pray much for them at this time. We rejoice though, because of her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, she has entered her eternal rest with Christ her Saviour and Lord. She is with the King of Kings – and all because one day she trusted Christ and God saved the Queen that day.
What greater joy could you have today than to know you are also saved and right with God?
