“In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you” John chapter 14 verse 2.
These words of promise spoken by Jesus before He left His disciples to go to die on the cross, have been a tremendous comfort and blessing to millions of Christians over the centuries. Interestingly, this verse and others from the Bible, were read last week at the funeral of Queen Elizabeth.
For all the houses, palaces and castles she lived in, we know from her own expression of faith in Christ, Queen Elizabeth was looking forward to another house, a better house, an eternal home – Jesus called it “My Father’s house”.
Buckingham Palace in London has 775 rooms. Windsor Castle, where the Queen lived during covid, boasts nearly 1,000 rooms. The Queen died in Balmoral Castle, a favourite summer retreat for her and her family. But now, she with countless other Christians, the Queen is enjoying the “Father’s house.”
- It is a home prepared by Jesus.
- It is a home where Jesus now lives.
- It is a home where Christian can be sure of dwelling once they die.
- It is a home guaranteed, not by any works or prayers of ours, but by the grace and work of the Lord Jesus Christ.
“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. 4 And where I go you know, and the way you know.”
5 Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?”
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” John chapter 14 verses 1-6.
Wherever you live today, never forget you can enjoy the “Father’s house” through the same faith the Queen had in Jesus Christ our Lord.
