If I were to supply you with pen and paper and ask you to write down a list of the seven things that you HATE, what would they be (you could even have a go for real!). After all, I am not asking you to do anything other than what God Himself has done (apart, of course, from the pen and paper!). His Word (the Bible) records, ‘These six things the Lord HATES, Yes seven are an abomination to Him’ Proverbs chapter 6 verses 16-19:
- A proud look;
- A lying tongue;
- Hands that shed innocent blood;
- A heart that devises wicked plans;
- Feet that are swift in running to evil;
- A false witness who speaks lies
- And one who sows discord among brethren.
The dominant theme throughout the Word of God (the Bible) is LOVE. The word appears hundreds of times on its pages, whereas the word HATE appears less than a hundred times! It must bring great sorrow to God’s heart to look down from heaven at His created beings and see actions towards each other that are motivated by hatred and hear venomous words that are intended to have. a harmful impact.
As we meditate on the seven things God hates, let us determine, with His help, to hate them too.
May the mind of Christ my Saviour live in me from day to day,
By His love and power controlling all I do and say.
May the Word of Christ dwell richly in my heart from hour to hour,
So that all may see I triumph only through His power.
