Many years ago, God set a checklist that will ensure a happy and fulfilled life:
- “You shall have no other gods before Me”
- “You shall not make for yourself a carved image”
- “You shall not take the name of the Lordyour God in vain”
- “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy”
- “Honour your father and your mother”
- “You shall not murder”
- “You shall not commit adultery”
- “You shall not steal”
- “You shall not bear false witness”
- “You shall not covet “
These 10 Commandments are found in the Bible, Exodus chapter 20. Many seek to live their lives by them but I sense none of us can even obey Commandment Number 1, can we?
The Lord Jesus set an even higher standard when He was here, as He said simply to think an adulterous was to commit the very act Matthew chapter 5 verse 28. We all stand condemned before God.
But thank God: “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” Romans chapter 6 verse 23. Wages are what we earn, but this gift is free and for all.
“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast” Ephesians chapter 2 verses 8-9.
