Most of us will be experiencing another change in the seasons: in the UK and the west, summer has passed and autumn is upon us. This happens without very little thought from many of us, not that that it could alter anything for God has decreed:
“While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, winter and summer, and day and night shall not cease” Genesis chapter 8 verse 22.
We can be encouraged today in this promise from God. After the awful and dreadful happenings of the flood Noah and his family received this promise themselves. They and us can be assured that the seasons “shall not cease”; all are guaranteed because this is the promise of God.
Just as God gave Noah the sign of the rainbow that the world would not suffer a universal flood again, read Genesis chapter 9, so we have this promise too. And this promise has not failed.
There is one condition to this promise: “While the earth remains”. Whilst we live in a wonderful world, and have to be responsible for it, it is not the world that God had planned. Disobedience and sin have spoiled God’s fair creation and all of us with it; read Genesis chapters 1,2 and 3. Thankfully, for us there is available deliverance from sin and judgement through Jesus Christ, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” Romans chapter 6 verse 23. God has promised too a new heaven and earth and He will keep that promise; read Revelation chapter 21.
So, as the seasons change, let us depend on the unfailing promise of God, knowing He will fulfil all His purposes and plans.
