“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” Luke chapter 2 verse 14
How far away Christmas seems when this verse was read and heard by many. It was the message of the angels to the shepherds on the Bethlehem hills announcing the birth of Jesus Christ. “Peace on earth”. Is that really possible these days, today, with all the pain and hurt in Ukraine and many other places of the world long forgotten by us?
Yes thank God, “Peace on earth” is possible, and will be achieved, but true peace can only be made by the One born at Bethlehem, Jesus Christ.
“For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, to order it and establish it with judgment and justice from that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.” Isaiah chapter 8 verses 6-7
As the Prince of Peace He “made peace through the blood of His cross” Colossians chapter 1 verse 20. “For He Himself is our peace … And He came and preached peace to you who were afar off and to those who were near” Ephesians chapter 2 verse 14, 17.
“Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” Romans chapter 5 verse 1. Do you have this “peace with God”? When we do and only then can we be at peace with each other.
Peace, perfect peace, in this dark world of sin? the blood of Jesus gives us peace within.
Peace, perfect peace, the future all unknown? we know that Jesus reigns upon the throne.
Peace, perfect peace, death shadowing us and ours? Christ Jesus conquered death and all its powers.
Jesus is Lord! Earth’s struggles soon shall cease, and we shall come to heaven’s perfect peace.
