Last week was Mental Health Awareness Week and was an opportunity for the UK to focus on mental health. This year’s theme was kindness, the focus being a response to the coronavirus outbreak, which is having a big impact on people’s mental health. Being kind results in a display of affection, gentleness, warmth, concern, and care. Being kind often requires courage and strength. There have been numerous displays of kindness which have been so overwhelming and, in a sad way, unexpected too.
It should be no surprise that God is inherently kind and has needed no unexpected pandemic to display it: ‘But when the kindness and the love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, 5 not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, 6 whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour, 7 that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life’ Titus chapter 3 verses 4-7.
The command for Christians always is ‘Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you’ Ephesians chapter 4 verse 32.
