In the past week we have been listening to a Government aide explaining why he ‘deviated’ from the Government’s rules on lockdown by going for a half hour drive in the countryside to test his eyesight. His statement led me to think of testing our ‘spiritual eyesight’. There were those in the New Testament, who passed the spiritual eyesight test:
-
wise men from the east came to Jerusalem after the birth of the Lord Jesus, saying, ‘Where is He that is born King of the Jews, for we have seen His star in the east and are come to worship him?’ Matthew chapter 2 verse 2.
-
the words of a Roman centurion, who witnessed the crucifixion of Jesus, showed great insight: ‘Now when the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, Certainly this was a righteous man’ Luke chapter 23 verse 47.
-
after Jesus had risen from the dead, His disciples said, ‘We have seen the Lord’ John chapter 20 verse 25.
Whether it was at His birth, death or resurrection, it was the sight of Jesus that made a deep impression on these people. What do you see when you look at Him? Do you see Him as the King, the righteous Man, who died on the cross to save you, and the risen Lord?
