A Small Thing That Points To Christ (2)

Suggested reading: Exodus chapter 16 verses 1-21.

When Paul wrote to the church at Corinth, he reminded them of the following truths:

God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things which are, that no flesh should glory in His presence, 1 Corinthians chapter 1 verses 27-29. Bearing these truths in mind, we will continue our meditation this week on the bread (small round thing) that God sent down from heaven to sustain the children of Israel in their need. Every small detail that we are told about it, points us to Christ:

  • it looked like a coriander seed, which has fine and delicate markings and speaks to us of the beauty of Christ (verse 31)
  • it was white, which reminds us of the holiness of Christ – no sinful thought or action was seen in Him (verse 31)
  • it tasted like wafers with honey, reminding us of the sweetness and graciousness of His character (verse 31)
  • it tasted like fresh oil – He was filled with the Holy Spirit (Numbers chapter 11 verse 8)
  • it looked like bdellium – only mentioned twice in the Bible – a very precious stone that speaks to us of the preciousness of Christ – worthless to men but precious to God (Numbers chapter 11 verse 7)
  • it is the glory of God And in the morning you shall see the glory of the Lord (verse 7)

This beautiful description of the glory of God in all its preciousness that was found each morning on the face of the wilderness, speaks to us of Christ Jesus, who displayed the glory of God in the barren wilderness of the world!
