Thought For The Day

Be thankful

Why is to so hard to say the ‘T’ word – Thank you? It is not just children we have to teach to say ‘thank you’ but adults too, Christians included.

After considering God’s wonderful blessings, this was the challenge Paul gave to his readers:

And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful” Colossians chapter 3 verse 15. Would they not think to say ‘Thank you’? Would you? Do you?

The book of Psalms regularly encourages its readers to give God thanks. “It is good to give thanks to the Lord, and to sing praises to Your name, O Most High; to declare Your lovingkindness in the morning, and Your faithfulness every night” Psalm 92 verses 1-2.

It is very humbling to learn of the appreciation of one leper who returned to Jesus to say ‘thank you’ for His miraculous healing: “And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, returned, and with a loud voice glorified God, and fell down on his face at His feet, giving Him thanks. And he was a Samaritan” Luke chapter 17 verses 15-16. How much more do followers of Jesus, Christians, today praise and thank God for all His goodness and blessings in salvation.

What is very moving is to remember the Lord Jesus, when instituting the Lord’s Supper, He gave thanks to His Father before He went to the cross to pay the price for our salvation:

And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed (or gave thanks) and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, “Take, eat; this is My body.” Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins” Matthew chapter 26 verses 26-28

Thank you Lord, for saving my soul, thank you Lord, for making me whole;
Thank you Lord, for giving to me, Thy great salvation so rich and free.

Happy Monday!
