I am writing this on the Monday morning when the country is taking its first small steps out of the coronavirus lockdown. The Government has referred to them as ‘baby steps’. Government ministers are urging caution, because if we move too quickly we run the risk of undoing all the progress that has been made so far in defeating the virus.

How different this approach is to the salvation that God offers to us. The Bible does not promise us time; indeed, it warns against complacency about the future: ‘Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth’, Proverbs chapter 27 verse 1. The apostle Paul writes, ‘Behold NOW is the day of salvation’,

2 Corinthians chapter 6 verse 22. There is, therefore, no room for ‘baby steps’ as far as the salvation of our souls is concerned. If we do not place our trust in the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation from our sin TODAY, tomorrow may be too late!
