We conclude our journey of the mention of THE LAMB in the Scriptures.
THE PROCLAMATION OF THE LAMB
John the Baptist prophesied the imminent arrival of Jesus and urged people to be ready for His coming. The time arrived, when he announced to two disciples, ‘Behold! The LAMB OF GOD who takes away the sin of the world!’, John chapter 1 verse 29. Clearly, he had an insight into the character and work of Jesus. Later on, Jesus declared, ‘there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist’, Luke chapter 7 verse 28. Christians confess Jesus died on the cross for their sins but they also believe He will return to take away its sin too!
THE PASSION OF THE LAMB
In order to take away our sin and the sin of the world, it cost Christ everything, whereas, it cost us nothing! Peter wrote, ‘For Christ also SUFFERED once for sins’, 1 Peter chapter 3 verse 18. Isaiah, the prophet, reminds us, ‘He was led as a LAMB to the slaughter’, Isaiah chapter 53 verse 7.
THE PURCHASE OF THE LAMB
Peter reminds us, ‘you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold . . . but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a LAMB without blemish and without spot’, 1 Peter chapter 1 verses 18-19. It ought to humble us that it took the suffering of Christ to bring us back to God. John was among the few who stood at the foot of Jesus’ cross and witnessed His passion; however, after His resurrection, he saw a thrilling sight in heaven: ‘And I looked, and behold, in the midst of the throne . . . stood a LAMB as though it had been slain’, Revelation chapter 5 verse 6. The One he had watched go so low that He could not have gone lower, was now at the pinnacle of heaven, where He is now!
