Togetherness (2)

We continue with our previous meditation on the outcomes of the ‘togetherness’ experienced by Peter and John, two of Jesus’ disciples.

THEY PRAYED TOGETHER

‘Now Peter and John went up TOGETHER to the temple at the hour of PRAYER, the ninth hour’, Acts chapter 3 verse 1.  Having already sensed, in our previous meditation, the spiritual stature of these two disciples, it would not be unreasonable to suggest that this particular hour had already become special to them – it was the ninth hour, the hour of prayer, that Jesus cried from the cross, ‘My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?’, Matthew chapter 27 verse 46. At this point, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom and entrance was opened up into the presence of God!

Peter and John must have walked into the temple on this day, knowing that their payer time was going to be so different from what it had been – the death of Christ, signified by His cry on the cross at the ninth hour, meant they had direct access into the very presence of God! They had discovered TOGETHER that we have ‘boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way’, Hebrews chapter 10 verse 20.

THEY PREACHED TOGETHER

‘They (Peter & John) taught the people and preached in Jesus the resurrection from the dead’, Acts chapter 4 verse 2.  It cannot have been an easy thing for Peter and John to preach about Jesus’ death and resurrection in such a hostile environment; however, they stood together and fearlessly preached the gospel in Jerusalem; indeed, later on they were to be found preaching about the risen Saviour in some of the Samaritan villages, Acts chapter 8 verse 25, which had been so hostile to Christ, when He had visited them before His death and resurrection.

We can gain great strength and courage to preach the gospel, if we undertake the task in the company of one or more others.
