Masks or no Masks?

During the Covid-19 pandemic there has been an on-going debate as to whether face masks should, or should not, be used to prevent the spread of the virus. It has been emphasised that masks are primarily for the protection of others, rather than self.

As far as the ‘disease’ of sin is concerned, we do not ‘catch’ it from, or pass it on to, others. David, king of Israel, wrote, ‘Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin my mother conceived me’ Psalm 51 verse 5. There is nothing that can protect any of us from the fact that we are born sinners by nature and, therefore, stand in need of God’s salvation. The apostle Paul writes, ‘There is none righteous . . . there is none who seeks after God …’ Romans chapter 3 verse 11.

I can never blame any-one else for the fact that I am a sinner. However, the wonderful message of the gospel is that ‘while we were still sinners, Christ died for us’ Romans chapter 5 verse 8.
