Forgive and Forget?

There is a very real danger that we might be tempted to presume on God’s forgiveness, i.e. to believe that, because He is both loving and forgiving, everything will turn out well for each one of us in the end, regardless of how we respond to Him in this life. Nothing could be further from the truth! The Bible sounds out a sobering message: ‘The Lord is longsuffering and abundant in mercy, FORGIVING iniquity and transgression, BUT HE BY NO MEANS CLEARS THE GUILTY’, Numbers chapter 14 verse 18.

God, freely and unreservedly, forgives every sinner, who turns to Him in repentance and puts their trust in the Lord Jesus, who died for their sins on the cross. The future for all such could not be brighter – a future home in heaven! However, for those who reject His offer of forgiveness in Christ, the prospect could not be darker – a lost eternity, without hope and without God. He is not desirous that any should perish, but He is holy and will not forget and ‘clear the guilty’!
