I remember visiting London Zoo many years ago and discovering CONIES (ROCK BADGERS) among the new arrivals. When I approached their enclosure, they were stretched out on rocks. Suddenly, a noise disturbed them and in a flash they disappeared into the rocks. They reminded me of the words of King Solomon: ‘The ROCK BADGERS are a feeble folk, yet make their homes in the crags (rocks)’. They are no match for predators; therefore, wisely, they seek ‘PROTECTION’ in the rocks, if they are threatened.
Solomon’s father, David, wrote, ‘The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust. My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold’, Psalm 18 verse 2. He also wrote, ‘When my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the rock that is higher than I’, Psalm 61 verse 2. We need this same PROTECTION, because we are no match against Satan and the power of sin in our lives.
A well-known hymn begins: Rock of Ages, cleft for me, let me hide myself in Thee. The only place of protection for us is to be found in Jesus Christ, who died for our sins and rose again. He is ‘the Rock that is higher than I’. ‘BE WISE – BE PROTECTED!
