Darkness Before Dawn!

An old English proverb says: ‘The darkest hours are just before dawn’. The truth of these words is reflected in the Bible, which opens with the words, ‘the earth was without form, and void, and darkness was on the face of the deep’, Genesis chapter 1 verse 2. However, God always moves from darkness to light: ‘Then God said, “Let there be light” and there was light’, Genesis chapter 1 verse 2.

The darkest hours that have been experienced on earth were when Jesus died on the cross: ‘Now when the sixth hour had come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour’, Mark chapter 15 verse 34. In those hours it seemed as if all hope for mankind had disappeared But, thankfully, the dawn always follows the darkness!

Very early in the morning, certain women approached the tomb in which Jesus was buried to anoint His body. Matthew says, it was ‘as the first day of the week began to dawn’, Matthew chapter 28 verse 1. Their hopes had been shattered but they still loved Him. However, they received a message that would rekindle their hopes: ‘You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He is risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid Him’, Mark chapter 16 verse 6. The apostle Paul later took up the same theme, when he wrote to the Christians at Corinth: ‘If in this life only we have HOPE in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable. But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the first-fruits of those who have fallen asleep’, 1 Corinthians 15 verses 19-20.

Has this light dawned in your soul? Are your faith and hope in God, ‘who raised Him (Christ) from the dead and gave Him glory’, 1 Peter chapter 1 verse 21?
