Let us now consider some of the characters Jesus met on his journey across the sea. They are not dissimilar to those we meet on our journey through life.
Firstly, there was a man with an unclean spirit, Mark chapter 5 verses 1-20. He lived among the tombs and no one could tame him. When Jesus approached him, he cried out, ‘What have I to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God. I implore You by God that you do not torment me’, verse 7. We might refer to him as THE MAN WHO DID NOT WANT TO BE HELPED. The Bible teaches ‘we are all like an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags’, Isaiah chapter 64 verse 6. It is only ‘repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ’ that can make us clean from sin, Acts chapter 20 verse 21, Sadly, most people DO NOT WANT TO BE HELPED! What about you?
Secondly, Jesus met A WOMAN WHO DID NOT WANT TO BE KNOWN’. She ‘had a flow of blood for twelve years, and had suffered many things from many physicians’, Mark chapter 5 verses 25-34. She heard about Jesus and believed if she could just touch His clothes, she would be healed – what faith! Her faith had made her well and Jesus sent her away in peace, verse 34.
Thirdly, Jesus met A GIRL WHO DID NOT WANT TO BE DISTURBED. She had died and was surrounded by parents and neighbours for whom all hope had gone. Nevertheless, she came into contact with Jesus, for whom death was sleep. He raised her from the dead and gave her new life, Sadly, the most people today do not want their lives disturbed by the challenge of spiritual matters and they reject the possibility of new life and hope in Christ. What about you?
