Are you worried about anything today? Listen to the words of a man who was placed under house-arrest and chained between two Roman soldiers in the 1st century: ‘Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God, and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus’, Philippians chapter 4 verses 6 & 7.
We could have excused Paul, the apostle, if he had been downcast and depressed in such distressing circumstances, His work for God, including preaching the gospel (good news) about Christ Jesus, was being undermined by his enemies. It seemed as if they were free to do as they pleased, while he was achieving nothing. Which one of us would not have been anxious about everything, if we had found ourselves in such a predicament?
Yet, amazingly, Paul writes, ‘BE ANXIOUS ABOUT NOTHING’. Using the language of the current pandemic, through which we are passing, he was in ‘an anxiety-free bubble’! How did he get there? The answer is found in three words: PRAYER, PEACE and PROTECTION.
Have you PRAYED today? PRAYER puts us in immediate touch with the God of Peace, who longs to communicate His peace to us. Where His peace is, there is no place for worry. We need PROTECTION from the anxieties that invade and disturb our hearts and minds. The peace that God gives guards (a military word, referring to the soldiers that guard the walls of a city to keep the enemies out) these vulnerable parts of our beings and keeps out all our worries. Paul’s words, ‘Be anxious for nothing’ appear to be unrealistic and unreachable and, left to ourselves, they are. However, if we turn to God in prayer, the impossible becomes possible! We will even find it possible to be thankful for the difficult times through which we pass!
Why not start and pray today? Believe God is hearing you. Find a Bible and read His words to you. He will always bless those who look for Him.
